Cairo – Taha Hafez
Legendary Egyptian actor Mahmoud Yassine has told Arabstoday he will not be appearing on the small screen this Ramadan. “This season is going to feature less than a third of last year’s glut of telly drama,” he said in an exclusive interview. Yassine said he was waiting for the right opportunity to crop up. “I haven’t decided on a script yet – it’s getting late for this Ramadan now.” The actor known for his distinctive voice bemoaned the state of Egyptian TV, blaming socio-economic and political difficulties for the change. “It’s sad how few series will be shown this year,” he said. “People will be talking about how few productions there are instead of complaining about there being too much to watch!”
