Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix
Cairo - Egypt Today

UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix said a reduction in fighting in Sudan's Darfur, where a brutal conflict has killed thousands, prompted the UN to downsize the number of peacekeepers deployed there.
"The fact is that there is much less fighting in Darfur," Lacroix told reporters in Khartoum.
"The Security Council has decided to reduce the size of UNAMID given the evolution of the situation on the ground, essentially the fact that there is much less fighting in most of Darfur, except the Jebel Marra area where the situation remains complicated and more tense," he said.
